This ORT is at a place of worship with a large community room.  It is set back from a busy road among large shade trees.  On three sides, the one-story building is bordered by trees and brush.  It is a short, easy walk from the parking grounds/parking lot to the building.  The ground and asphalt are fairly level. There are curb cuts at the sidewalk around the building.  The flooring inside the building is a combination of textured/wood-grained tile in the test room, and a short stretch of linoleum in the hallway.  Due to unforeseen conditions, such as weather or change in availability of areas at the location, the expected test area, parking, and/or pathways may be modified at the last minute.

Overnight deliveries must have the signature waived box checked.


Entries close August 1, 2018 at 5 pm or when entry limits have been met.


Entries are LIMITED to 100 tests.


Test Site Hours: 7:30 am - 4 pm.  Details regarding check in time and briefing will be sent approximately 1 week before the ORT.

Test Site Information

Parking is on grounds under large shade trees or in asphalt lot with some shade.  Dogs must be crated in the car or at the car unless being walked on a 6 foot leash.   Aluminet, Tarps, Ez-ups, awnings, fans and other cooling equipment/supplies strongly encouraged! 

Wading pools also welcome.  If you bring a pool, bring towels!  Your dog must be relatively dry before entering the building.


The building has Air Conditioning and dogs will be stationed at two points inside the building before the test room. 


Cold bottled water will be provided for handlers.  There will be a short lunch break for volunteers.  There are several places for handlers to pick up food and pet supplies, plus a gas station, all within half a mile due west of the test site.  (Publix, Jimmy Johns, Leonardo’s Pizza, Bagel Bakery, China 88, Fresh Market, Flying Biscuit, Five Guys, Pet Smart, Pet Wise…)

All dogs must be on a 6’ leash at all times when not being tested. No Flexi-leashes for walking dogs on test site grounds; Flexi-leashes may be used in the test itself.


Entry Requirements

The handler of the dog must be a current member of the NACSW™. The Dog must be registered with the NACSW™.  For information on how to register or become a member go to www.NACSW.net   


You will need to register for membership with NACSW TM before you register for the ORT.  You will need the handler’s membership number for the 2018-2019 year, as well as the dog’s NACSWTM number to register for the ORT.


Trial Eligibility and ORTs

An ORT must be taken and passed at least 14 days before a trial opening date to be eligible for the first draw period.


Entry Fee and Second Dog Policy

The entry fee is $35 per odor test.

Up to 2 dogs per handler may test on each of the three odors.

August 1, 2018, 5 pm

Overnight mail entries must have the signature request waived.


Refund Policy

Refunds will be granted in full ($35 per test) before July 29, 2018 at 5 pm. 

After July 29, there will be partial refunds of $25 per test. 


ENTRY FEES shall not be refunded in the event that a dog is absent, disqualified, or excused by the NACSW™ official or judge.


Video/Photography Policy

ORT participants are allowed to have a friend or family member video/photograph their test.  ORT participants are not allowed to video/photograph one another.  ORT hosts are not obligated to provide someone to video/photograph.

NW 16th Blvd is an East/West street in Gainesville, FL.  The building is on the north side of the Blvd.  The test site at 3830 NW 16th Blvd is between North/South streets, NW 34th St and NW 43rd St. 

It is several blocks north of W. Newberry Road/ W. University Ave (SR 26)

and several blocks south of NW 39th Ave (SR 222).

TEST Information - Notice to Exhibitors


THE TEST SITE will be open from 7:30 am – 4 pm.



Details regarding check in time and briefing will be sent approximately 1 week before the ORT.

Score books are optional and are not required to participate in an ORT. They are for personal record keeping. If you have lost a scorebook or would like a replacement, you can request a replacement score book that will include all your prior NACSW results. Log in to your account at: http://www.nacsw.net and under the "My Account" section, go to "My Dogs" and choose the option to order a replacement score book there. The cost is $20.


NO SPECTATORS ARE PERMITTED IN THE SEARCH AREA during the ORT EXCEPT NACSW™ officials, adults accompanying a minor, CNWI-in-training, or immediate family members/friends of the dog/handler team currently being tested.



       RETURNED CHECKS do not constitute a valid entry fee.  Returned checks will incur fees equal to the depositor’s bank fees.   



       OWNERS/HANDLERS are responsible for errors in making out entry forms.

       EXPRESS MAIL entries must include signature permitting them to be left at the secretary’s address without recipient’s signature.


DOGS PRESENT will not be permitted to roam. Exhibitors are responsible for the behavior of their dogs. The owner/handler of each dog is solely responsible for having it ready when it is to be judged. Be prepared to keep your dog in your car or crated by your car when not being tested unless being pottied on a 6 foot leash.  REACTIVE DOGS, please bring and have your dog wear a red bandana.


There is no inside crating at this test. 


FEMALES IN SEASON – Contact your test host at least 1 day before the ORT if this becomes a possibility


DOGS PARTICIPATING in ORT must be at least six months of age and must appear to be healthy on trial day and should be current on all vaccinations required by law.


Acknowledgement of entry acceptance/CONFIRMATION will be made when entries are processed for those handlers who provide an email address. If you require a confirmation via USPS, you must provide a self-addressed stamped envelope with your entry.


BASIC DESCRIPTION OF TEST – to successfully pass an ORT a dog must identify the location of the target odor and the handler must correctly call an “alert” within a three-minute time period. The Odor Recognition Test consists of a drill type exercise which requires 12 closed boxes set up in a pattern of one or two rows, spaced a minimum of 48” apart. The ORT is conducted on leash.
